Once the offer is accepted, the following occurs.

Contracts are exchanged and the "cooling off" period begins (if relevant) - this is a "conditional" exchange;

Pest and Building Inspections are usually conducted;

The "cooling-off" period ends – the contract becomes "unconditional" and the property is sold!;

Settlement occurs.
